Fifth Month

We had a couple of big milestones this month. The first was that Ellie figured out how to roll from her front to her back. This finally meant no more melt down's when she didn't want to be on her belly anymore. She also decided she was done with the pacifier. I must have relied on the pacifier more than her, because I was all worried she wouldn't sleep for us now. She actually started sleeping better, because she didn't wake up in the middle of the night wanting it. Bonus! Possibly the best news was that her reflux was gone. Gone were the days of being covered in puke. I felt like one day I just woke up and she had stopped puking. It was wonderful. Because of these progressions, we decided it was time to move her to her crib. Every other time we tried she would be covered in puke within a couple of minutes, so I was a little leary. I was also worried that we would have some sleepless nights. We all know I need my sleep. We put her in, and she went hysterical for 10 minutes. RJ had a great idea. He figured she was so used to her small chair bed that she was freaked out with how big the crib seemed. We put pillows in her crib to make it really small, and every couple of days we made her area just a  little bigger. It worked! She slept through the night from the first night we put her in there! It went so much smoother than I expected. I felt like she was growing up so fast.

One of the last nights in her chair bed.

Naptime in her crib.

My friends all told me that the dads take a little longer to get used to daddyhood then moms. It's true. It finally just seemed to click with RJ. One day he volunteered to take Ellie on a walk. his first outing with her by himself. Normally I would've asked if he could've done it later in the day, because it was 8am and 30 degrees outside. But I had to take him up on the offer so he could get used to it.

Ready for her first walk with daddy.

By the next week her was taking her out on errands by himself. We were also finally settling into a good routine at home where I didn't feel like I was doing everything. RJ would stay up and do her "dream feed" at 11pm and I would get up in the morning with her when she woke up. He would watch her more often so I could go some errands without her. I came home from one of these trips to them watching a basketball game and just hanging out.
